Following the Project Iso mixtape, he adopted the moniker Iso and released a nonstop stream of music, including the multi-volume Different series as well as Venom and IKON, both released in 2014.

He first went by the stage name Reali-T, releasing the T-Virus mixtape in 2013 and then Project Iso later that year. His involvement in crime eventually resulted in jail time, and upon his release he grappled with homelessness, low-paying gigs, and trying to leave violent street life behind. His early teen years were equally consumed by rap and gang life. Inspired by the fast-paced multi-syllabic styles of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and the West Coast chopper scene, Iso developed his fast and versatile delivery style early on. He was first exposed to music by his stepfather, playing classic hip-hop albums while he was growing up and beginning to work on his own music at age 13. Years of focused hard work yielded a series of passionate mixtapes, including 2015's The Insanity Plea, and led to collaborations with bigger-name rappers.Д«orn into a military family in 1989, Iso moved around a lot before landing in Omaha early in life. The rapper went from struggling with homelessness to signing with Twisted Insane's Brainsick Muzik to eventually falling out with the label and connecting with icon chopper rapper Tech N9ne. ItвЂ™s all about marketing and hype these days вЂ“ replace C. Rhodes is one of the many projects released this year that will be (unwittingly) ignored by most Hip Hop listeners due to lack of exposure and reach, but itвЂ™s much better than new projects by overhyped mainstream rappers like Lil Baby and Lil Uzi Vert that dropped in the same week as Rhodes did and which got all the attention. Ray does it right here вЂ“ the cover art of Rhodes looks fresh and inspires curiosity, which gives the album a headstart. A bad cover gives the impression the content will suck too. In this oversaturated market where artists need to do what they can to capture the music consumerвЂ™s attention, too many artists place themselves at a disadvantage by slapping ugly cover art on their projects.

Rhodes runs for a full hour but doesnвЂ™t feel a minute too long вЂ“ that says all about the quality and the entertainment value of this project.

His style takes some getting used to, and it will not be for everybody, but it is different enough to stay captivating вЂ“ plus he comes with lyrics worth listening to. Ray is a versatile vocalist вЂ“ he changes styles continuously, from a fast, choppy, off-beat flow to a more вЂtraditionalвЂ™ delivery, with some singing thrown in the mix as well. RayвЂ™s instrumentals, but itвЂ™s the vocals that make Rhodes an interesting album. RayвЂ™s first full-length project of the 2020s, one that deserves attention.
